William “Bill” Pelton Jones was born November 4th, 1937, in Worcester Massachusetts to Dr. Guy and Dorothy Jones. Bill moved several times while young, living in Montana before his parents settled down in Boise. He attended and graduated Boise High School and Boise State University.
Bill enjoyed his visits and time spent in Canada on the family farm and ranch. Embraced as one of their own, Bill absolutely adored and loved Smokey and Leona. He worked alongside his cousins Bob, Linda, Jim and Leanne, always learning something new about farm life in Lomond, collecting eggs, plucking beans or chickens, jarring pickles or weeding in the garden. They loved how he tilted his head down when he laughed and rung his hands together. Trying to keep down the gopher population with a .22 was his favorite pass time on the farm.
In January of 1956 he joined the Marine Reserves. In October of 1959 he joined the Marines in active duty and stationed with the 1st Marine Division, 3D Assault Amphibian Battalion at Camp Pendelton. Part of his active duty was in Hawaii for readiness training with a deployment to the Gulf of Mexico late 1962.
Bill met Bonnie through their mutual friends John and Jane Baker. Married in Boise August 5th, 1972. They moved into a house in the North End of Boise, made a home of it, and had a son, Dan in 1976. Grandkids Christian and Emilia were born 2007 and 2009.
Bill enjoyed the outdoors and all it entailed. Fishing, hiking, camping and canoeing were amongst his favorites. Bill was the scout master for Troop 100 from ‘82-‘86 and had many great stories he was happy to share from the time. Bill also loved dogs, from an early age well through retirement. Camping and fishing were a large part of his life, spent with his family around Idaho. Upper Payette Lake became a favorite spot for Bill and Bonnie after retirement with their motorhome.
Bill was very cherished by his family and friends and will fondly live on in our memories. Services to be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 15th at Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel, Boise. Reception to follow at Idaho Outdoor Association Hall.
