William Joseph Stobaugh, 65, passed away on November 14
after complications from brain aneurisms.
Bill was born on
September 17, 1948
, to Robert E and Ethel Stobaugh in
Twin Falls
,
Idaho
. After graduating from
Twin Falls
High School
in 1966, he attended
Idaho
State
University
for one year before enlisting in the Air Force.
Subsequent to his military service, Bill attended college at the
College
of
Southern Idaho
and
Boise
State
University
where he
earned a degree in electronics.
Bill worked for many years installing and repairing medical
equipment in
Idaho
and
Montana
. It was through this job working in the
hospital setting that he met his wife, Myrna, who was a registered nurse and
x-ray technician. They married on
June 11, 1982
, in Shoshone,
ID. For the last 15 years of his career
Bill worked as a technician for Idaho Power, where he retired in 2011. Retirement didn’t keep him busy enough, so
most recently he enjoyed working part-time at his friend Ken Kaae’s electronics calibration business.
Bill and Myrna shared many interests over the years. In the late 1980’s they both served on the
ski patrol at Bogus Basin. Bill &
Myrna enjoyed being in the outdoors, tent camping with his kids and Bill’s parents when they were
younger, fly fishing with his father, and later on enjoying the luxuries of
having a trailer for their camping trips.
They fulfilled Myrna’s dream of
visiting her roots in
Scotland
two years ago and last year traveled together in the trailer to the East
Coast. Bill was an avid Ham Radio
enthusiast, traveling to Ham Fests in several states and participating in
contests to see how many countries he could contact within a given time
frame. But the biggest passion that both
Bill & Myrna shared was traveling the country on their motorcycles. Yes, they both belonged to a motorcycle club
and wore leathers!
Family was first and foremost in Bill’s life. He loved and supported his kids and grandkids
in every way. He was generous with his
time for his kids and grandkids, always trying to teach by example. He was also the computer “help line” for both
sisters and was usually able to diagnose and fix their computer problems over
the telephone! He enjoyed his Saturday
morning breakfast with his buddies and also his bi-weekly MOOF lunch (Meeting
of Old Farts).
Surviving Bill is his wife of 32 years, Myrna; two
daughters, Tanya (Bill) Barkell of Kuna, ID and Carolyn McManus-Poston of San
Antonia, TX; two sisters, Margaret Ann Stobaugh of Moses Lake, WA and Sarah
Stobaugh of Boise, ID; and seven grandchildren, Alexander McDowell, Victoria
McDowell, Kodie Barkell, William Barkell, Sheila McManus, Ethan McManus, and
Hailey Poston.
A memorial service is planned for Monday, November 18, at
2:30 pm at Alden Waggoner Funeral Chapel, 5400 Fairview Avenue, Boise, ID.
The family request any memorials be sent to the charity of
choice.
